On the night of September 11, 2026 a severe thunderstorm sat over Kirby and Converse with golf ball to baseball hail and 60 mph gusts. Roofs, gutters, windows, fences and AC units across 78109 and 78244 were hit. Your carrier's adjuster works for the carrier. Converse Public Adjuster is a licensed public adjusting practice that works only for you.
The night of September 11
Times are Central Daylight Time, taken from National Weather Service statements and local news reporting, compiled by Converse Public Adjuster.
An afternoon round of storms put Bexar County under a severe warning hours before the main event.
NWS flags a strengthening storm on the northeast side. Warnings follow at 8:12, 8:26 and 8:34 PM.
Storm moving southwest at 15 mph. Golf ball hail and 60 mph gusts in the warning issued at 10:12 PM, in effect until 11:15 PM.
Trained storm spotters report hail up to 1.5" on the East Side. Viewer photos to KSAT show larger stones; StormerSite logs 2.50" near Converse.
More than 8,000 CPS Energy customers lose power, about 4,600 of them around Kirby and Converse. Under 2,000 remain out by 11 PM.
CPS Energy completes a multi-day restoration. Roofers begin canvassing 78109 and 78244. This is when claims get filed, and when they get underpaid.
Real-size hail gauge
The circles below are drawn at true size on most screens. The two outlined in orange are what fell on Converse. Anything at or above 1" is enough to bruise an asphalt shingle even when the roof still looks fine from the driveway.
Sizes follow the NWS hail scale. Rendered at 96 CSS pixels per inch; phones and tablets are close to true scale, large monitors may run slightly large.
What golf ball hail does to a Converse home
Converse's housing stock is largely 1990s to 2020s builds with three-tab or architectural asphalt shingles, aluminum gutters and slab-mounted AC condensers. Here is what Converse Public Adjuster inspects and photographs on every roof, and what a rushed carrier inspection tends to miss.
Hail fractures the fiberglass mat under the granules. The roof leaks months later; the carrier calls it "wear." We document impacts per test square with a chalk-and-tape method that holds up in appraisal.
Soft metals record hail size and direction like a fingerprint. Dented turtle vents and pipe jacks prove the hail was big enough to damage shingles too.
Aluminum gutters dent from the top and split at seams. Carriers frequently pay to "repair" a section that cannot be color-matched.
Wind-driven hail at 60 mph shreds screens and chips vinyl and Hardie siding on the storm-facing elevation. Sept 11's storm moved southwest, so northeast-facing walls took it.
Crushed fins cut efficiency and are a covered peril. Fin combing is rarely an adequate repair on 1.5"+ hail.
Stained ceilings and wet insulation from the 2"+ rain that followed the hail are part of the same claim, if they are tied to the storm-created opening.
Cedar privacy fences, metal carports and polycarbonate patio covers are covered "other structures" and are routinely left off the carrier's estimate.
Auto damage runs through your auto comprehensive policy, not the homeowners policy. We can point you in the right direction, but our work is the property claim.
Services
A public adjuster is the only insurance professional licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance to represent you, the policyholder, in a property claim. Converse Public Adjuster's fee is a percentage of what we recover, capped by Texas law at 10%, and there is nothing to pay upfront.
Full documentation of roof, metals, exterior and interior damage from the September 11 storm, presented as a line-item estimate the carrier has to answer.
The carrier paid for a "repair" or a partial slope on a roof that needs full replacement. We reopen the claim with a supplement and negotiate the difference.
"Wear and tear," "cosmetic," "pre-existing," "below deductible." We review the denial letter against your policy and the storm evidence and push back with facts.
When the carrier will not move, we prepare the appraisal demand under your policy for you to sign and support the dispute in front of an independent panel. This is our specialty.
Strip centers along FM 78 and Loop 1604, churches, warehouses and rental portfolios in Converse and Kirby. Loss of rents and business interruption included.
Burst pipes, slab leaks, kitchen fires and lightning strikes. Same representation, same no-upfront-fee structure.
How it works
Every step happens in this order. You never have to meet the carrier's adjuster alone, and you never pay us until you are paid.
A short call about your roof, your policy and where the claim stands. Converse Public Adjuster tells you honestly whether a public adjuster will add value.
Roof, exterior, interior and contents, photographed and measured. Test squares, metal soft-hit evidence and a moisture survey where rain got in.
We read your policy the way the carrier will, then write a line-item estimate in the same software carriers use, at current San Antonio pricing.
We file or supplement the claim, meet the carrier adjuster at your home and negotiate every line, in writing.
Most claims settle. If the carrier digs in, you can demand appraisal under your policy; we prepare the demand for you to sign and support it through to the umpire. Our fee comes out of the recovery, never your pocket.

Texas rules that matter after a hail storm
Insurance in Texas runs on deadlines, and most of them favor whoever knows they exist. These are the ones Converse homeowners should have in mind now.
Most Texas homeowner policies require "prompt" notice, and many set a one-year outside limit for weather claims. Report now, even if you are not sure of the damage. Reporting is not the same as accepting an offer.
YOUR POLICY · CONDITIONS SECTIONOnce you report, the carrier has 15 days to acknowledge the claim and start its investigation, and 15 business days after receiving everything it needs to accept or reject it.
TEX. INS. CODE CH. 542 · PROMPT PAYMENTAfter a carrier accepts a claim it has 5 business days to pay. Late payment adds statutory interest and attorney's fees on top of the claim.
TEX. INS. CODE §542.057–.060A Texas public adjuster's commission may not exceed 10% of the insurance settlement. No retainer, no hourly billing, nothing due until the carrier pays.
TEX. INS. CODE §4102.104It is illegal in Texas for a roofing contractor to act as a public adjuster on a roof it will repair. If a roofer offers to "handle the insurance," that is your cue to call us.
TEX. INS. CODE §4102.163Weather-related claims require 60 days' written notice before any lawsuit, and most policies limit suits to two years from the loss. Appraisal is usually faster and cheaper than either.

Converse sits between Loop 1604, I-10 and FM 78, hemmed in by Kirby, Windcrest, Live Oak and Universal City, with Randolph Air Force Base to the north. Converse Public Adjuster serves all of it. The Sept 11 storm's path from Kirby southwest through Converse means the ZIP codes highlighted below saw the largest hail.
We also serve the rest of Bexar, Guadalupe and Comal counties. Statewide coverage through our parent firm, TX Public Adjusting.
Questions Converse homeowners are asking this week
Get it inspected before you decide. Hail of 1.5" to 2.5" fractures shingles without tearing them off, and the damage shows up as leaks a year later, after the policy's filing window has closed. Our inspection is free and we will tell you if there is nothing there.
No. A paid claim can be supplemented or reopened, and in our experience most first payments on hail roofs in Bexar County leave out gutters, metals, siding, fence, code upgrades and overhead and profit. We review what was paid against what was damaged, at no cost.
Converse Public Adjuster charges a percentage of what we recover for you, never more than 10%, which is the maximum Texas allows. There is no retainer, no hourly billing and no fee if we recover nothing. On a reopened claim our fee applies only to the additional money.
It is common in Converse after a storm, and it is illegal. Texas Insurance Code §4102.163 prohibits a contractor from adjusting a claim on a property it will repair. Use a roofer to build the roof and a public adjuster to settle the claim.
Texas law bars a carrier from cancelling or non-renewing a homeowners policy based only on weather-related claims. Rates in 78109 and 78244 move with the area's storm history, and the Sept 11 storm is now part of that history whether or not you file.
Those are the two most common denial reasons on hail roofs, and both are arguable. We document impact density per test square, compare to the metals on the same slope and cite the storm data on this site. If the carrier holds its position, you can demand appraisal under your policy, and we prepare that demand for you.
Nearly every Texas property policy lets either side demand appraisal when the amount of loss is disputed. Each side picks an appraiser, the appraisers pick an umpire, and the panel sets the amount. It is binding on the dollar figure, does not require a lawyer and usually resolves in weeks. It is the core of our practice.
Vehicle hail damage runs through your auto policy's comprehensive coverage and is not something a public adjuster handles. We are happy to explain the process on the phone.
For Converse, Kirby, Universal City and Live Oak, Converse Public Adjuster is scheduling within 48 hours during the Sept 11 response. Call or use the form and we will confirm a time the same day.
